Model and actor Kalyan Corraya is quite famous now. He has been living in home quarantine because of the coronavirus. A Mizan talks to his about his time during quarantine and other contemporary issues.
How are you spending your time?
I am spending time at home, not going out at all. And in terms of passing the time, I am doing work around my home. I don’t know much about cooking I sometimes try to cook up some snacks. Other than that I do try cleaning around the house, also watering the plants and doing some gardening.
I am trying to write some stories and have already finished writing some of them. Also, at present I am making a scrap book from all the paper cuttings of my interviews that I have. I am shooting small clips in my home, maybe I will be able to publish it on Facebook or YouTube at some point.
How long has it been since you last went out?
It has been a long time since I last went out. Actually, counting the days since the beginning of the lockdown I haven’t gone out for once since March 22, except for once when I had to go to the bank. Other than that I am staying at home. I am trying to abide by the rules.
What is your message to everyone?
I believe that this is a test of patience. Those who have patience and have managed to hunker down they will have passed this test. And those who don’t have patience may face uncertainty at any time. The instructions that have been given by the health organisations or the government, I think they are appropriate for our country and we should adhere to them.
People everywhere are trying to follow these rules and I think that if we follow them properly then we will be able to overcome this pandemic. Stay home, done gather anywhere, and maintain hygiene.
Do you feel frustrated in this situation?
At first, this situation was not that much seriously considered. But later, as the number of days for lockdown was started to increase it dawned upon us as to how serious the situation was. I feel frustrated that I couldn’t do any work this Eid.
This time is very crucial for every sector in our country. There are many activities centring the Eid, but all of it got cancelled because of coronavirus. We get to work a lot. We didn’t get to work at all.
And also we are doubtful about when we will be able to start shooting once again. Although permission has been given once again that we can shoot, there are still many rules that need to be followed because of heath concerns. And pretty soon this stagnation can cause financial issues. This also needs to be thought of.
How are you missing your work?
I am missing my work very much. And this is the prime time when we get to do work that has a good budget. Eid festivities is the time when we get to work at places that have good locations, good scripts and arrangements. Normally, we work on low budget.
But, we get to work fully to our potential during this time of celebrations. Other than that I do miss the sound of light, camera, actions. I miss the unit, the director and fellow artistes. We are like a family, I miss it very much and the fact that I am not able to do it now.
Do you have regular contact with the people in the media close to you at this time?
Yes, I am connected to those who I am close with on social media, through cell phone. I have come live and talked on various issues. Many are arranging live sessions. Other than that I am connected with directors, fellow artistes. Not only the people media but also I am connected with my family, friends and journalist also. Those we are attached with whether senior or junior all are connected more or less.
What do you want to do first at the end of the coronavirus period?
I want to be free from this confinement. I want to travel places in the country and abroad. It would be great if we could get back to the state we were before all this happened.
So, when the situation gets better I want to go places once the coronavirus situation ends. This lockdown has taught us a lot about what we should have done and we did.
We got to reflect a lot on our lives. We should take care of each other as human beings and take care of our family except getting absorbed in work all the time.
