Unwanted debates that have been created over the foreign exchange reserve situation of the country is not fair at all, we are not afraid of the reserve situation but we need to be careful in this regard, said former central bank Governor Dr. Mohammad Forash Uddin on Sunday.

Mentioning the country’s economy still remains strong, he raised question that the why the loan defaulters will be exempted time and again?

He was addressing a shadow parliament titled, ‘UCB Public Parliament on technic of increasing internal resources to ensure economic safety’, organized by the ‘Debate for Democracy’ in Dhaka.

“Economically we have already surpassed Pakistan, Srilanka and now competing with India”, he added.

Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron presided over the event while debtors from Bangladesh University and Tejgaon College participated in the debate.

“Per capita income of around 2.5 corer of people of the country is $5000 but only 2.5 lakhs of people pay income tax, whereas there have a huge number of people who are able to pay income tax and they should be brought under tax net”, Forashuddin added.

He said despite unbelievable progress, the economic inequality is widening day by day.

Expressing fear that if the IMF make delay to release the 2nd phase amount of concessional loan then it will create impact on the energy, supply chain and inflation, Dr. Farashuddin hoped that IMF will release the fund in consideration with the ongoing world situation.

Prof Dr. Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Journalist Moinul Alam, Shah Alam Khan and Jakir Hossain were in the judge’s panel in the debate completion.
