Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has alleged that waterlogging in Chattogram city cannot be resolved due to lack of equipment worth Tk 300 crore.

The city mayor said this while delivering the chief guest speech at a seminar held at the CCC conference room on Saturday morning.

The seminar titled 'Role of civil society and media in resolving waterlogging in Chattogram city' was organized by the initiative of Bangladesh Public Relations Association (BPRA), Chattogram branch.

City mayor said that despite the fact that equipment is very important in the waterlogging resolution work, it is not possible to purchase new equipment due to the lack of goodwill of the government. This requires budget allocation for the purchase of equipment.

He said that budget allocation is not given in proportion to the population in Dhaka and Chattogram. However, everything is taken from Chattogram city and port. But discrimination is made in giving it to Chattogram.

Dr Shahadat Hossain expressed hope that 50 to 60 percent of waterlogging can be resolved if everything is in order, including the necessary equipment.

Urging journalists to highlight the obstacles to waterlogging resolution in the media, the city mayor said, there is no need to hide anything. If you hide information to please the mayor, you will not be able to solve the problem. So highlight the real problem through investigative reports.

We will be able to take action quickly after seeing the media reports.

The main article at the seminar was presented by Bhuiyan Nazrul, Bureau Chief of Dainik Desh Rupantor.

President of Bangladesh Public Relations Association (BPRA) Chattogram branch, Ovik Osman presided over the meeting.
