Watercress cultivation highly profitable in Jamalpur

Farmers have achieved success in watercress cultivation in Jamalpur's Dewanganj.  Most of the farmers of the upazila have become self-sufficient by cultivating paddy on fallow land.  As Dewanganj is a relatively low-lying land, most areas of this region are submerged due to low water level.As a result the farmers of this region cannot collect their desired crops.  They suffered huge losses.  Again due to excessive rain water gets stuck in different places.  As a result, the farmers do not get proper income by producing seasonal crops. Therefore, the farmers of this region have chosen water-based crops as an alternative crop in their waterlogged fallow lands.  Because of the high profit in the crop, it has already gained great popularity in the cultivation of watercress in the area. Farmers of this region have been cultivating watercress for a long time.  Nowadays, farmers are able to collect more water.  The upazila agriculture office provided full support to the farmers.  

They are always giving advice to the farmers for any need.Under their close observation, paddy cultivation has become a popular farming method in the region. Now is the best time to collect paddy.  This year there has been a bumper yield of watercress compared to other years.  The bumper yield of watercress has put a smile on the faces of the farmers.  Fallen lands can produce the same amount of crops as other lands.  As a result farmers do not have to face losses.  The cultivation of water fruits is increasing day by day due to low cost and high profit.  Marketing this delicious fruit is very easy.  This fruit can be cultivated very easily on fallow land in waterlogged areas.  More production with less cost.  Farmers here are inclined towards water fruit cultivation because it is profitable. The first water fruit cultivation in the country started in Dewanganj of Jamalpur.  Farmers have become very interested in watercress cultivation due to short time and low cost and high profit.  

The farmers of other upazilas were inspired by the success in the production of paddy in the upazila and started cultivating paddy in their fallow land after learning the farming method.The local name is 'Singara', known by many as 'Paniphal'.  In addition, there are many Bahari names in various places.  Water Cultrop, Buffalo Nut, Devil Pod etc.  Again in English it is called 'water chestnut'.  Its scientific name is 'Trapa natans'.  It grows only in knee or waist water.  Many people also know it as Singara because it looks a bit like Singara made in the market. Fertilizers and pesticides are not needed in fruit cultivation.  As a result the cost to farmers is less.  Planting seedlings in fallow ponds will yield good yields only with good care.  3-4 thousand rupees are spent on cultivation per bigha of land.  And the fruit is sold in the local market for Tk 25-30 thousand.  So profit is about 7 times.  

Perennial Aquatic Plant Watercress grows up to 5 meters tall.  Roots are in soil under water and leaves are floating on water.  Panifal can be cultivated with little water from various fallen ponds, canals, ponds.  Due to which the farmers are encouraged in this cultivation. According to the information of the Upazila Agriculture Office, the farmers have cultivated water fruits on 105 hectares of land in Dewanganj upazila.  18-20 maunds per bigha and about 4 crore 72 lakh rupees can be invested this year.  The upazila agriculture department is trying its best to expand the cultivation of paddy.  This fruit can be cultivated in any fallen canal, pond, pond or reservoir.  Its production cost is relatively low compared to other crops. Watermelon farmer Suruj Mia said, compared to other years, there has been a bumper yield of watermelt this year.  Spending 3 to 4 thousand taka per bigha and selling at 12 thousand taka per bigha, I got a profit of 15 thousand taka per bigha.  I will cultivate the rest of my land next year.Farhad Hossain said, I got 30 maunds of fruit by cultivating watercress on 2 bigha land.  I got about 32 thousand rupees.  7 thousand rupees have been spent.  Profits are high with less capital outlay.  It is also delicious to eat. Watermelon is cultivated in the bank next to Dewanganj Upazila Parishad.  Hafizur Rahman, a farmer who cultivates here, said that the cost of paddy cultivation is 3 thousand to 4 thousand taka per bigha.  I hope that this time we can sell the fruit for 16 thousand to 17 thousand taka.  Currently our interest in this fruit cultivation is increasing day by day.  

Many poor families in the region are becoming self-reliant by cultivating water crops in closed reservoirs.  About a hundred families have brought wealth to the needy world by earning two paisa extra through water-fruit cultivation with little capital.  Watermelon is very beneficial for the body.  It is also delicious to eat.  This fruit eliminates the lack of nutrients in the body, helps control blood pressure, stops blood clots, is a special physical booster, is very useful to fix the problem of excess labor in women. Dewanganj Agriculture Officer Paresh Chandra Das said, our agriculture department is trying its best to cultivate watercress.  to spread  This crop can be cultivated in any fallen canal, pond, pond or reservoir.  Its production cost is comparatively low.  This time the farmers of this upazila are getting interested in paddy cultivation as the intensity of flood is less.
