'The Ministry of Water Resources is working to deal with any disaster including floods and waterlogging situation. Maximum efforts are being made to prevent river erosion across the country. Our engineers are taking action whenever the dam is damaged somewhere. Under the direction of the Prime Minister, I am doing round-the-clock monitoring all over the country and giving instructions online.'

State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk MP said this after an emergency meeting at the ministry's office room at noon on Sunday. Additional Secretary (Development) Rokon Ud Daula and Director General of Water Development Board Fazlur Rashid were present on the discussion.

State Ministes Zahid Faruk further said, 'Emergency dam repair work should be done to prevent irregularities by forming a committee including the deputy commissioner. In the midst of Covid-19 pandemic, all our engineers are working day and night to deal with the disaster.

Meanwhile, when Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman contacted the State Minister on mobile phone about waterlogging, State Minister Zahid Faruk said, 'Waterlogging has occurred outside the DND project area. Moreover, the benefits of the project will not be achieved unless the excavated canals remain clean and free of waste.”

The original purpose of DND project was to expand irrigation, though now it is more of a project which prioritizes creating a residential area around the town, State Minister added.

State Minister Zahid Faruk during the meeting said that he is planning to visit the DND project area in Narayanganj next Sunday to find out the problem.
