Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday said WASA would be fined for dumping garbage in open spaces during various development works.

He warned Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) while inaugurating the sewer cleaning programme at two spots of DSCC around 12 noon on yesterday.

The mayor said to the WASA authority, “You can't leave dirt on the streets while cleaning sewerage- drain. (If you do that) Then you will be fined, legal action will be taken against you. In addition, sewer cleaning activities will be conducted throughout the year.”

He said the activities would not be short-lived but would continue and all the sewers in each ward would be cleaned twice a month.

Calling on the people to be vigilant to ensure access to services, the DSCC mayor said, “If the sewer gets stuck somewhere, even if it overflows or if there is waterlogging somewhere, you will inform the city corporation through councilors.”

“If there is still no solution, then inform me directly,” he added.

Lawmaker from Dhaka-7 constituency Haji Selim, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Shah Emdadul Haque, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Badrul Amin, chief health officer Brigadier General Sharif Ahmed, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Ward 20 Councilor Farid Uddin Ratan and Councilors of Wards 22 and 33 were present during the programme.
