A Mizan

Actor Pooja Cherry is currently busy working on two films. The film star spoke to Bangladesh Post regarding cinema and other issues.

Are you outside? I can hear a lot of noise in the background.

I’m in FDC shooting for the film ‘Jin’. We are filming the last part here. Sajal bhai is acting opposite me in the film. It is a horror film. It is turning out quite well. I hope everyone will enjoy the movie.

Durga Puja is the biggest festival for you. Usually everyone takes time off during the festival but you are busy filming. Won’t you visit the Puja mandap?

To be honest, I loved acting since I was a child. I feel very happy during shooting and when I have free time I feel upset. When I was little, we used to go to our village for Puja. We used to celebrate Durga Puja in a grand manner in my ancestral home. Nowadays I have shooting, and study pressure so I can’t manage to go to the village. If I get time, I will visit the mandap with my family.

Do you have any special plans for Puja this time?

We have a lot of fun during Nobomi and Doshomi. We play Sindur Khela. I really enjoy it. This time I will wear saree and sindur when I go to the mandap. I want to dress like married women. I loved to dress up like that since I was a child.

Share some memories you have during Durga Puja.

When I was little my grandparents, uncles, aunts, all family members used to go see Puja together. I really miss that. I can’t enjoy Puja as much as before because I am usually very busy. I want to go to my village for Kali Puja this time.

Do you see anything different about going to Puja mandap before and going now?

Back then I used to dress and live very normally. Even now I want to be like that. I am still the same person; I just act in films now. Before no one knew me but now everyone approaches me for selfies. I liked living normally and I like what my life is now as well. I try to live in the moment.

In the film Jin you are Sajal’s co-star. You have a big age gap. Did that affect your work?

I didn’t have the fact that he is older in mind when we were working together. Sajal bhai is a very fun person. He always jokes around and makes everyone laugh on set. That’s why I didn’t remember that he is much older than me. I think the audience will also feel the same way when they will see the film. I hope everyone will enjoy our on-screen chemistry.

You are also working for a film called Shaan. What is going on with that movie?

The filming for Shaan is nearly complete. Siam is acting in the film opposite me. This film also turned out great.

What are your plans for your career?

I am very picky in general. I might do just one film at a time but it has to be a very good one. I want to work in films which the audience will like.

Everyone wants to be at the top of their field. I also want to reach the height of success where everyone will know my name.
