The National Consumer Rights Protection Department in Manikganj realised Tk 10,000 in fine from Walton Plaza for selling products above the stipulated price.
Assistant Director (AD) of the Consumer Rights Protection Department Asaduzzaman Rumel fined Walton Plaza on Monday afternoon after a hearing between the complainant and the accused organisation authorities.
The AD said that on October 14 last year, a woman named Rabia Akhter Trishna bought an extension socket from Manikganj Walton Plaza. Although the maximum selling price was written as Tk 445 on the packet of the extension socket, the accused company sold it from the woman for Tk 500. Later, the woman lodged a written complaint with the Consumer Rights Protection
Department. After hearing both sides, Walton Plaza was fined Tk 10,000 under Section 40 of the Consumer Rights Act, 2009. 25 per cent of the fine have paid to the complainant as an incentive immediately.
