Bangladesh boasts of having the longest sea beach in the world. In addition, it is soon going to take pride in having the longest marine drive in the world with 230-kilometer of roadway by the seashore. This is a prioritised project which is also the brainchild of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that will be able to connect to the existing 80-kilometer long Cox’s Bazar –Teknaf marine drive.
A report published in this daily says that the marine drive will connect at least 10 special economic zones in Chattogram region, a deep seaport and a coal-fired power plant in Moheshkhali island. This will prove advantageous to infrastructural support for communications to these key facilities and will also work to create tourist attraction for the country.
Apart from tourism, there are also plausible changes that will be brought about for industrialisation and housing, this has been shared by planning minister. However, it is to be kept in mind that these expansions in tourism, housing and industrialisation must be made in a planned and effective manner that will be able to reduce the harm that is being inflicted on the environment and create a better atmosphere for ecological improvement.

It augurs well, that already the feasibility studies are underway to implement the project in a risk-free manner. Besides, this project, once realised, will be on par with world-class infrastructural advances that will highlight Bangladesh in the global arena for the development that is taking place.
Based on the vastness of the project it is being thought that the cost for implementing it will be around 25 thousand crore taka. It can be surmised that this project will act in creating an economic boon for tourism in the country. On the other hand, experts opine that the government is giving greater attention to blue economy. The marine drive will make huge contribution to exploiting marine resources too.
If such is the case then efforts must be made by the authorities concerned to implement the project in a fruitful and effective manner as soon as possible. But above all, it must be made sustainable as the concept of blue economy is one that can be taken advantage of long into the future if properly managed.
