Professor Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud has been nominated for the Bangladesh Bank Award-2020.
The committee of the central bank, headed by its governor, chose Professor Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the country’s economy, said a press release.
The award will be officially handed over to Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud at a programme at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) auditorium at Mirpur-2 in the capital on Thursday.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will be the chief guest at the programme and hand over a gold medal, a crest of Bangladesh Bank and Tk 5 lakh as the award.
Prof Mahmud was born on July 1, 1948, in Noakhali district. His father Ali Ahmed Chowdhury was a government official and mother Saleha Khatun a housewife.
Professor Mahmud obtained his BA (Hons) degree in Economics from Dhaka University in 1986, securing first place in the first class.
The past Bangladesh Bank recipients are Rehman Sobhan (2000), Nurul Islam (2009), Mosharraf Hossain (2011), Muzaffar Ahmed and Swadesh Ranjan Bose (2013), and Azizur Rahman Khan and Mahbub Hossain (2017).
