On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his eldest daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has written an open letter to the children of the country. Terming the children as little angels, the Prime Minister expressed her love and best wishes to them. She also asked them to convey her salam to their parents and love to their siblings as well as to their neighbours.
“Today is 17th of March. On this day in 1920, a great man was born. He is my father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He gifted us this country, Bangladesh. He gave Bengalis the opportunity of building the self-identify as a nation. That is why, he is Father of the Nation,” wrote the Prime Minister.
“He struggled throughout his life sacrificing all his comforts and joys for the emancipation of deceived and poor people from hunger and poverty. He went to jail several times. Woes and griefs of people would deeply sadden him. He never hesitated to make sacrifices to establish the rights of the powerless people. He became near and dear one to the people of this soil. That is why he is Bangabandhu.”
“In 2020, we are celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation. Today not only here in Bangladesh, many of the countries across the world are celebrating his 100th birth anniversary, means 'Mujib Borsho'. My sincerest thanks to all.” Terming the children as friends, Sheikh Hasina said that killers took Bangabandhu’s life. They tried to erase his name from the history of Bangladesh. But they failed. They could not realise that from the stairs of his home at 32 Dhanmondi, Bangabandhu's blood spread all over Bangladesh and gave birth to crores of Mujibs. That is why, today, people of Bangladesh are wide-awake in search of truth.
History cannot be erased. Truth cannot be suppressed by falsehood. Today, not only Bangladesh, but the whole world is celebrating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation. The world has recognised Bangladesh due to his momentous sacrifices, the Prime Minister added.
“Our promise to Father of the Nation that we will build the ‘Shonar Bangla’ that he dreamt of. And that day is not that far. The Father is asleep next to his parents amid the greeneries of Tungipara. May he rest in peace. His Bangladesh is marching forward and will continue to do so.”
“We will live with his ideals inscribed in our hearts. People will thrive -- generation after generation -- in his Shonar Bangla. The flag that he gave us will remain raised always”, said Sheikh Hasina. She also advised children to study attentively, be good human and serve the nation and people.
