A volleyball competition and prize distribution programme was held in Jhenaidah on Friday. In the competition, organised by district sports office under annual sports programme of the sports department, Jhenaidah Sadar upazila team defeated Harinakundu upazila in two sets in the final round of the competition at Bir Shreshtha Hamaidur Rahman stadium.
Shailkupa upazila team versus Jhenaidah Sadar and Harinakundu versus Kotchandputr upazila team appeared in the competition. Jhenaidah Sadar upazila team had won the trophy defeating Harinakundu upazila team in two sets. Later a discussion meeting was held with youth and sports department deputy director Nurul Islam in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mozibor Rahman attended the discussion as chief guest. He had distributed prizes among the winners and runner up teams.
Superintendent of police (SP) Muntasirul Islam, Jhenaidah Sadar upazila nirbahi office (UNO) SM Shahin and district sports officer Mahbubur Rahman attended as special guests. The chief guest in his speech said the sports make the people perfect, honest and dedicated abide physical fitness. A sportsman never can be derailed anyway as he or she is a patriot in the society. Each and every citizen, especially, the students can play role participating in any game. Various games have been leading Bangladesh in the apex gradually which was merely a dream before the nation, he said.
