Visually impaired students want to light up the nation

With an intense sense and will power, visually impaired students of the 'Integrated Visually Impaired Education Programme' under the Department of Social Welfare of Bogura were continuing their studies through using Braille system of language and exploiting the speech transcribers.

According to sources of the Social Welfare Department of Bogura, the education programme for the visually impaired (blind) students was introduced under Integrated Visually Impaired Education Programme in local educational institute along with the common students in 1974.

One specially trained Resource Teacher was appointed under each programme to train the visually impaired students to teach the lesson through Braille system. In each centre, one Resource teacher, One House Parent-cum-teacher, one Cook and one Night Guard have been appointed.

In 2016, the two storied IVIEP office and dormitory was established at a cost of Taka two crore near Sultanganj High School playground. Resident blind students were studying their lessons through Braile Process. The government used to allocate Taka 3,500 for each student every month.  

Among nine students, Antor Mia, Dalim Mia, Halim Mondol are reading in class II, Mashiur Rahman is reading in class V and Jishan Hossain, Robin Khan, Kausar Islam and Hussain Mahmud Numan are reading in class IX in Sultanganj High School while Kabil Hossain has been studying in class XI in Bogura Government Shah Sultan College. Kabil Hossain got GPA-5 in SSC examination.

Zisan Hossain informed, he is hailed from Uthrail village of Santahar of Bogura district. Earlier he used to read in a school in Joypurhat. He hoped to get GPA-5 in HSC as well and vowed to work for suffering humanity after completion of his study.

Kausar Islam, a student of class IX, informed he has been continuing his study with a great hardship. He could not continue his studies unless the government financed him with all costs including food, dress, shoes, school fees and books.

Rashedul Hasan, House Parents-cum-teacher of Bogura Integrated Visually Impaired Education Programme informed, he has been working as a Technical Trainer of Bogura sadar upazila Social Service office. He said, visually impaired students of this institution are assisted in all possible way to offer them the quality education. Through using Braille Process, students could learn the same lessons those are taught to the general students. 

Azizul Islam Khan, Resource Teacher of IVIEP informed, the teachers and students of the Sultanganj High School are very friendly towards the visually impaired students.

Fazlul Karim, Head Master of Sultanganj High School informed, some of the visually impaired students studying with the general students at the school are very intelligent. They were continuing their studies with the intense strength of their mind. Both teachers and students are very friendly towards them and the officials of department of Social Welfare in Bogura were paying all costs of their living and education.
