Actress Azmeri Haque Badhan, a strong supporter of students, has called for an immediate end to the violence that has spread across the country. Badhan, who was active in the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement and the recent Drissho Madhyam Shilpi Shomaj (Visual Artistes Collective) protest, spoke out following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure.
Recent disturbances include attempts to damage the sculpture of Bangabandhu and incidents of arson targeting politicians' homes and buildings, as well as attacks on Hindu residences.
In response, Badhan urged everyone to stop the violence and return home peacefully. She said, "I call on everyone to stop engaging in violent activities and arson immediately. The reports of attacks on minority communities are deeply troubling and must end right now. Our freedom means nothing if we allow violence against our Hindu brothers and sisters and other minorities."
Badhan expressed pride in the students’ efforts to protect the nation but condemned the ongoing violence. She added, "This revolution should not be tainted by unjustified attacks. We need to stay calm and let the army have direct talks with the students. Let's work together for a peaceful resolution and a better future. Please reject all forms of violence and go home."
