Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said that if shops are kept open in violation of government instructions, legal action will be taken including revocation of licenses.
The mayor made this assertion while inspecting the Bijoy Shoroni area on Monday morning.
He further said that necessary steps would be taken to make all the fountains in the DNCC area, including the Bijoy Shoroni fountain, visually pleasing and operational.
Mayor Atiqul Islam said that the owners of shopping malls and shops have to abide by the laws and regulations as well as the government instructions. The mayor said that the DNCC is continuing its all-out public welfare activities to address the Covid-19 situation.
He said that in the existing Covid-19 situation, the dial number 333 is in operation for any emergency services including food aid. Anyone in need can call 333 and receive food aid. Atiqul Islam said that by using "Shobar Dhaka" mobile app, any citizen can easily submit their views or complaints to the DNCC on issues such as mosquito nets, street lights, garbage, waterlogging, public toilets, sewers and illegal installations. The problem will be dealt with as soon as possible.
The DNCC mayor said that in order to protect the city and the country, including the families of individuals, everyone has to abide by the health guidelines and government restrictions.
Responding to a question from the media, Atiqul Islam said that modern biometric system will be introduced instead of accepting attendance of cleaners in the traditional way. As a result, no one will be able to attend without being present at work and will not be able to neglect their responsibilities.
