Vin Diesel shares a first look at the director’s cut for ‘F9’ that will be on the digital and home media release, promising more ‘Fast DNA’.
Vin Diesel, star of ‘F9’, has teased the director’s cut of the film, which will come to digital and Blu-ray. ‘F9’ was released in June and has been one of the most successful films to come out in pandemic times; it has since grossed $700 million worldwide. This is the ninth installment in the franchise, with the tenth film coming some time in 2023 and the eleventh and final after that.
Once again, the latest film in the hit franchise ‘Fast and Furious’ follows Diesel’s Dominic Toretto as he and the other family members have to face off against Jakob Toretto, Dom’s younger brother played by John Cena, and returning character Cipher, played by Charlize Theron. Included in the cast are Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Kurt Russell, and Helen Mirren. While the critic score has been one of the lowest in the franchise for this entry, the fan reception is still quite positive, meaning Universal could see another success with its home release.
Diesel has now shared a sneak peek at the director’s cut of ‘F9’ on his Instagram. While there is not much footage shown, Diesel does mention how he was excited for director Justin Lin to return to the franchise? He has also teased more “Fast DNA” in this cut.
The director’s cut will definitely be exciting for Fast and Furious fans. The “Fast DNA” that Diesel teased will likely be more of the insane action that the franchise is known for. Each film seems to up the ante in terms of its action sequences, so this cut could potentially hint at the type of crazy action sequences ‘Fast and Furious 10’ will include. In the brief scenes shown in the above video, there seems to be more of the action sequence in space and one with Dom on a large tank. It also depicts a showdown between Dom and Jakob, but while there will be more scenes with the brothers, it’s unlikely the deleted scenes will drastically affect the film’s narrative.
The ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise isn’t known for studio interference, so it’s unknown how different the director’s cut of ‘F9’ will really be. Scenes are sometimes deleted for a good reason, but regardless, it will be interesting to see Lin’s true vision for the movie. Promoting the home release of ‘F9’ as a director’s cut is also a good way to get more people to purchase the film. The director’s cut of ‘F9’ hits digital on September 7 and 4K UHD and Blu-ray on September 21. —Forbes
