Villagers reconstruct rural road with own efforts

People of a village have reconstructed their important rural road to make it fit for the pedestrians and traffic movement. The villagers have done what the authorities concerned failed to do. They have set an example for other villages by reconstructing the two-kilometer rural road with their own efforts.

The initiative was taken at Nadpara Paschimpara under Sarutia union of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah.The villagers said that the road between the village and Sailkupa upazila headquarters and other places was badly damaged for want of repairing. It could not be repaired in couple of years after repeated request from the locals to authorities concerned. The road leads to Nadpara High School road to Eidgah turning, Masjid turning to Mohar Ali’s house and Moksed Ali’s house to Jabbar Ali’s house. 

Villagers and students of some higher secondary and primary school said that thousands of people move on the roads every day. They face troubles while crossing the road in the monsoon as the roads go under water round the season. The expressed their grave dissatisfaction over situation of the roads.

Even the students stop in attending the classes due to muddy road. Finding no other alternatives, the villagers took the challenges to reconstruct the road with sand and brickbats. Hundreds of students also participated in the work.

Chairman of Shailkua Upazila Parishad Shikder Mosharraf Hossain said that the people of the area have taken the initiative of repairing their own road on voluntary basis. They construction work of the road at Nadpara village will be started within a few weeks as the tender process of the road was completed in the meantime. The sufferings of the people will go within few months, he added.
