Vikram Doraiswami appointment new Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh

Vikram Doraiswami has been appointed as the new Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He is replacing the current High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das.

India’s foreign ministry said this in a statement on Thursday (August 13th).

Vikram Doraiswami is serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs of India. He will join the post shortly.

Vikram Doraiswami is a 92nd batch officer of the Indian Foreign Cadre. Prior to joining as Additional Secretary, he served as Joint Secretary, Bangladesh-Myanmar (BM) Division, Ministry of External Affairs, India.

Doraiswami joined the Indian Mission in Hong Kong as the third secretary in May 1994 after completing his government service training in 1992-93. He holds a Diploma in Chinese language from the New Asia Yale-in-Asia Language School at the Chinese University in Hong Kong.

He joined the Indian Embassy in Beijing in September 1996 and served for about four years.

In 2000, Doraiswami was appointed Deputy Chief of Protocol (Official) at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. He joined the Prime Minister’s Office in 2002.

In 2006, Doraiswami joined the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York as Political Counselor.

In October 2009, he was appointed Consul General of India in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Vikram Doraiswami was the Joint Secretary of the US Department of the South Block from October 2012 to October 2014.

He has since served as India’s ambassador to South Korea and Uzbekistan.
