Victory Day celebrations in districts

The 49th Victory Day was celebrated across the country amid festive mood. Various programmes were arranged in districts and upazilas across the country.
Our Correspondents sent reports over celebration of the Victory Day.
RCC Mayor leads rally in Rajshahi
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton headed a colourful rally in the city and placed floral tribute to the portraits of Bangabandhu and four martyred National leaders in observance of the Victory Day. Senior Awami league leaders and activists including AL Senior Vice-President Shahin Akhter Reni, leaders of associate bodies and people from all walk of life attended the rally and the functions of the Victory
Day, reports our Regional Correspondent.
Rajshahi city Awami League leaders and activists headed by RCC Mayor offered floral wreaths to the portraits of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the four martyred national leaders at the Swadhinota Chattar at Kumarpara of the city. Afterwards, a rally was brought out from infront of AL office at Kumarpara which was headed by Mayor Liton. The rally paraded various streets of the city and converged into the same spot.
Besides, Awami League organised a victory rally in the morning to celebrate the day.
The district administration also organised a magnificent parade in the Shahid Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium. Members of the police force, Bangladesh Ansar, Bangla­desh Border Guard and students from educational institutions participated in it.
RU, RUET celebrate the day amid festivity
The authorities of Rajshahi University and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology celebrated the 49th victory day on the respective campus with due solemnity, reports our RU Correspondent
In Rajshahi University, the celebration started with the hoisting of national flag and singing the national anthem on the university campus in the morning.
Later, students, teachers and officials brought out a rally on the campus that paraded main streets of the campus and ended it in front of the university shaheed minar where they laid a wreath.
RU vice chancellor professor M Abdus Sobhan, pro vice chancellors professor Ananda Kumar Saha, Professor Choudhury Zakaria, treasurer professor Mostafizur Rahman, acting registrar professor MA Bari, Student adviser professor Laila Arjuman Banu, proctor professor Lutfar Rahman, and public relation office administrator professor Provash Kumar Karmakar were present among others, on the occasion.
RU Teachers’ Association, RU Journalist Association, Bangladesh Chhatra League, RU Drama Association and other political, cultural and cultural organizations paid tributes to the liberation war martyrs.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology celebrated the day with due respect to the martyrs of Great War of liberation, wave of ecstasy and in a befitting manner on the campus.
Spectacular Victory Day march at MA Aziz Stadium
A colorful march was held at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram city on the occasion of the Victory Day, reports our Staff Correspon­dent from Ctg.
Thousands of people enjoyed the monumental display on the theme of national sound, country song, national anthem, armed salute, pigeon hoist, national flag hoisting, festoon, liberation war, independence, Bangladesh on Monday morning. The entire stadium was decorated in red green for the
occasion.
Divisional Commissioner Md Abdul Mannan was the chief guest on the occasion. Special guest was DIG Khandaker Golam Faruk, CMP Commissioner Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Nure Alam Mina, Commissioner Md Elias Hossain presided over the meeting.
The parade was conducted by the District Police Line, IR of Police Md. Mohsin. Raufabad's Government Children's School Girls' School has a wide range of students. They had excellent service in Bangabandhu, PM's speech and Joy Bangla song. At the end, the guests distributed prizes among the winning organizations.
Those who received the award-- Chittagong Collegiate School I, CMP School and College Second and Haji Muhammad Mohsin Government High School took third place in the squad.
Among the smaller groups, CMP School and College (Primary Branch) of Dampara was first, Kazi Dewri girl government primary school second and Nasirabad colony government primary school third.
Gazipur Mayor addre­sses reception for FFs
Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Mohammad Jahangir Alam said the children of freedom fighters will be assisted in the employment, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
The mayor said this while addressing a reception at the martyr freedom fighters' family and hero freedom fighters in the city's Bangtaz auditorium on Sunday morning.
Mohammad Jahangir Alam said to the freedom fighters, you participated in the liberation war in exchange for your life, you have given us an independent state. The streets of the city will be named after the freedom fighters to preserve the history and traditions of the War of Liberation.
The mayor added that all the freedom fighters will be holding tax free. When the freedom fighters show their cards, they will be given free medical treatment at all public and private hospitals in the city. Their children will be assisted in jobs, business and employment. No one will be unemployed in this city.
The Mayor said that the family would be given Tk 5,000 each year for the freedom fighters 'gifts and martyrs' freedom fighters. Assistance will also be given to the construction of the house of an unlucky freedom fighter. Gazipur City Corporation will always evaluate the freedom fighters.
He said that no one was made chief or special guest on the occasion to show respect to the freedom fighters;

today.
Colourful procession brought out at IU
The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Monday observed the 49th victory day remembering the three million people who sacrificed their lives to carve out an independent country amid passion, enthusiasm, festive mood on the campus, reports our IU Correspondent
To make the day, IU authority brought out a colourful procession in front of the university administrative building led by its vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur Rashid Askari while pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha, registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif, deans, chairmen, teachers,
officers and students attended the
procession.
IU authority placed floral wreath at the Shaheed dais while Teachers Association (IUTA), Shapla Forum, Zia Parisad, Officers Association, Journalists Association (IUJA), residential halls, various departments and many social and cultural organizations including IU BCL unit, Mukta Bangla Shahitta Parishad, Consumer Youth, Rover Scouts, BNCC and others association also placed the wreaths at “Mukto Bangla” and offered prayer for martyred of liberation war.
Later, a friendly volleyball competition held among the teachers, officers and students of male and female halls at university football ground.
Earlier, Vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag while pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted university flag atop of the university administrative building around 9:30am.
Provosts of all the residential halls hoisted national and university flags a top of their respective halls.
Debate competition, Drawing competition, cultural programme and food distribution programme held to make the day.
Cultural function, other programmes held in CHT
Victory Day was observed amidst different programmes at Barkal upazila in Rangamati hill district and other parts of the CHT, reports our CHT Correspondent.
On the occasion, concerned upazila administration in coordination with Barkal upazila parishad chalked out elaborate progarmmes including offering floral garlands at the Shahid Minar in the morning, hoisting national flag, receiving guard of honour, reception to the freedom fighters, march-fast, display, sports and prize awarding ceremony.
In the morning, upazila administration and upazila parishad paid homage by offering flower garlands with all government departments, Barkal Press Club, Barkal Rakib- Rabeya College, Barkal high school, government primary schools at the upazila Shahid Minar at Barkal upazila headquarters.
Besides, freedom fighters, leaders and workers of different political parties---Awami League and BNP also paid their rich tributes through offering flower garlands at Shaheed Minar.
Bidhan Chakma, chiarman of Barkal upazila parishad, SM Monjurul Haque, upazila nirbahi officer, Md. Jasim Uddin, officer in-charge (OC) of Barkal police station and principal of Rakib Rabeya College Nui Ching Rakhaine were present as guests.
Reception accorded for FFs, families of martyrs in Khagrachari
On the occasion of the Great Victory Day, the freedom fighters and family mebers of martyred freedom fighters were accorded reception at Khagrachari, reports our Khagrachari Correspondent.
The reception was organized by the administration at the district stadium in the afternoon. Deputy Chief Minister Pratap Chandra Biswas was the chief guest.
The speakers acknowledged the contribution and sacrifice of heroic freedom fighters in the liberation war, saying today that this is an independent Bangladesh in exchange for the bloody war of the year.
The present government is working to protect their honor. They urged all to move the united country forward in the spirit of liberation war. Besides, assurance of all kind of cooperation was given by the administration of the members of the freedom fighters and martyrs freedom fighters.
On the occasion, Superintendent of Police Ahmar Uzzaman, District Social Services Officer Monirul Islam, former freedom fighter commander Raichuddin were present.
Later, a prize bond of 1,000 rupees was handed over to three freedom fighters and members of the martyred freedom fighters.
Golam Dastagir Gazi joins Victroy Day programme in N’ganj
Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi and leaders of different political parties paid tributes to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Upazila Nirbahi Office in Rupaonj by placing wreaths in the morning of the Victory Day.
Later, students of different schools of Rupganj celebrated the day through various displays and exhibitions. Narayanganj Zila Khelaghor Asor organised a rally carrying the national flag.
Parade, display held
in Magura
The Victory Day was observed in Magura through different programmes, reports our Magura correspondent.
Different government and non government organizations paid floral wreath on the victory monument at Magura Nomani Moidan. Subsequently displays were performed at Magura freedom fighter Asaduzzaman stadium. Then Freedom fighters and members of martyred freedom fighters family were accorded to reception at Shekh Kamal indoor stadium.
Bangladesh Shishu academy arranged competition on painting, essay writing and recitation at Magura Asaduzzamana auditorium. The programs ended with a grand cultural show at Magura Asaduzzmana
auditorium.
10 distressed FFS hon­oured in Benapole
On the occasion of Victory Day, 10 distressed freedom fighters were awarded by Customs officers association in Customs Auditorium, reports our Benapole Our Correspondent.
Bir Bikram Md. Nurul Haque was the Chief Guest at the honored ceremony. Bir Bikram Md Nurul Haque , Customs ADC Dr. Neamul Islam with High officials paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the Sahid Miner.
Different activities were organised by the Customs Authority. The programmes began with hoisting of the national flag with national anthem at the customs premises in the morning.
Later, a minute’s silence of respect was followed by special prayer in memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh’s independence.

BAU holds various programmes
The authorities of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) observed the 49th ‘Victory Day' with due respect to the martyrs of Great War of Liberation, wave of ecstasy and in a befitting manner on the campus, reports our BAU Correspondent.
To mark the day, BAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Lutful Hassan paid homage to liberation war monument “Moron Sagor” by placing floral wreaths. After that, different political, social and cultural organizations of the university paid tribute to the glorious sons of the soil by placing floral wreaths there. They also observed one-minute silence to pay respect to all martyrs of the Liberation War.
Different programs were taken for victory day by university authorities. Special prayer was held at different mosques and temples, freedom fighters and martyrs of the university were give felicitation by National Day Observance committee, friendly sports were also arranged by university hall authorities.
Athletics show held
in Meherpur
A magnificent march and athletics show were held at Meherpur Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Md Ataul Ghani hoisted the national flag at 8:30 am. At this time, pigeons and balloons were flown in to symbolize peace, reports our Meherpur Correspondent.
Later, the boys and girls of different educational institutions including Bangladesh Police, Jail Police, Fire Service, Ansar and VDP, BNCC, Rover Scout, Girl's Guide, Red Crescent, Cup team was participated at athletics & march.
Deputy Commissioner Md Ataul Ghani visited the parade and received the salute. Meherpur Police Superintendent SM Murad Ali was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner.
Prizes were distributed among the winners of the march and athletics Exhibition. In this group, Genius Laboratory School and College achieved 1st, BM School Girl Guide achieved 2nd, BM School Girl in Scout achieved 3rd prize in Ka group of march.
Meherpur Genius Laboratory School and College achived 1st, Chhahi Uddin Brilliant Pre-Cadet Academy achieved 2nd, and Glorious Pre-Cadet Academy achieved 3rd Prize in Kha Group. At the same time, CollectorateSchool won 1st prize, Meherpur Genius Laboratory School and College 2nd and Holy Public Pre-Cadet 3rd in athletics exhibition.
