Victory Day celebration programmes taken in Rangpur

The district administration in Rangpur at a preparatory meeting has chalked out programs to celebrate the Victory Day-2019 on December 16 next with paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil, reports BSS.

Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan presided over the preparatory meeting held at his conference room in the city on Monday afternoon. Leaders of different political parties, heads of government departments and educational institutions, sociocultural, professional, business, human rights and other organisations, NGOs, journalists and civil society members were present. Acting President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, District Council Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Deputy Director (Local Government) Syed Farhad Hossain, Additional Police Super Abu maruf Hossain, Organising Secretary of district AL Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, its Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul and Publicity Secretary Rosy Rahman, noted cultural personality Monwar Hossain, among others, addressed.

After elaborate discussions, the meeting finalised the day-long programs and decided to take adequate security measures for ensuring peaceful celebrations of Victory Day programs. The observance will begin with 31-gun salutes at Police Lines Ground, placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and independence memorial ‘Arjan’ and hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings with the sunrise.

The programs also include illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with national flags and colored miniature posters and banners and Victory Day marathon. Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam will hoist the national flag and take salute at march-past and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.

The District Information Office will screen documentary films throughout the month of December on the War of Liberation and Victory Day. Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the nation at all places of religious worship.

The authorities concerned will serve improved diets to inmates of hospitals, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars, jail, vagabond and children centres. Freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions and the main discussion will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the evening marking the Day.

Drawing competitions for children, charity shooting competitions, special discussions and sports competitions for women, football match, sports and essay competitions, cultural functions and prize giving ceremony will also be arranged.
