Victory day was celebrated in the districts on Tuesday as the country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces on this day 54 years back through a nine-month-long blood-stained War of Liberation.
On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent country at the cost of supreme sacrifice of three million martyrs and two lakh women.
In Rangamati, the great Victory Day was celebrated with due dignity in the district on Tuesday through a series of day-long programs.
Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi paid rich tribute to the martyrs by laying wreaths at the Rangamati Central Shaheed Minar at dawn.
Later, Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Abdul Rakib, freedom fighters, and Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Major General (Retd) Anup Kumar Chakma, along with leaders of various political and social organisations, laid wreaths at the Shaheed Minar and paid homage to the brave martyrs.
At 7.30 am, wreaths were placed at the memorial of martyred Bir Shreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf on behalf of the BGB Sector Commander and Rangamati District Administration.
At 9.00 am, the national flag was formally hoisted at Rangamati Chinghla Mong Mari Stadium, followed by the rendition of the national anthem. Students from different educational institutions participated in a parade and display.
At 11:30 am, a reception was organised in honor of valiant freedom fighters and the families of martyrs and war-wounded freedom fighters.
In addition, various social and cultural organisations arranged programmes throughout the day to mark the occasion. The Rangamati District and Upazila administrations also organised multiple events commemorating the great Victory Day.
In Mymensingh, the great Victory Day was observed on Tuesday.
with due dignity and solemnity through a series of day-long programmes commemorating the final victory of Bangladesh in the nine-month-long Liberation War of 1971.
The day's programmes began at dawn with the firing of 31 cannons, marking the formal inauguration of Victory Day celebrations across the city.
As the sun rose, tributes were paid to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the Liberation War Memorial at the Patgudam Bridge intersection on the banks of the old Brahmaputra River.
Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi was the first to lay a wreath, followed by Range DIG Ataul Kibria, Deputy Commissioner Saifur Rahman, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, brave freedom fighters, and leaders of various social, cultural and professional organisations.
Later, the national flag was officially hoisted at the local stadium.
Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi inaugurated the programme by hoisting the flag in the presence of senior administrative officials, representatives of different departments, and teachers and students from various educational institutions.
As part of the programme, students presented impressive physical displays reflecting patriotism, discipline and the spirit of the Liberation War, drawing wide appreciation from the audience.
Other activities marking the day included discussion meetings on the significance of the Liberation War, receptions for brave freedom fighters and family members of martyred freedom fighters, and special prayers seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs.
Victory Day was also observed with due honour in all upazilas of the district under the initiative of local administrations.
In Meherpur, the day was celebrated with due respect and different programmes today.
In the morning, floral wreaths were placed at the Shaheed Smriti Soudha at the Meherpur College intersection in tribute to the valiant martyrs of the Liberation War.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Syed Enamul Kabir laid wreaths on behalf of the district administration and local residents. Superintendent of Police Ujjwal Kumar Roy paid homage on behalf of the Police Department.
Leaders and representatives of various political, social and government organisations also laid wreaths, including the District Council, Muktijoddha Unit, Meherpur Municipality, BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Health Department, Government College, Government Women's College, and Meherpur District Ansar and VDP.
Besides, wreaths were placed by the Upazila Administration, Sohiuddin Degree College, Technical Training Centre (TTC), District Narcotics Control Department, Fire Service and Civil Defence, District Youth Development Department, District Social Services Department, District Fisheries Department, Roads and Townships Department, along with other government and private organisations and educational institutions of the district.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace and forgiveness for the departed souls of the martyrs.
In Barishal, the great Victory Day was observed in Barisal today with due dignity and a range of programmes, paying heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
The day began at sunrise with a 31-gun salute. Wreaths were later placed at the Martyred Freedom Fighters' Memorial adjacent to the Deputy Commissioner's office, where leaders and officials paid homage to the heroes.
Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman laid a wreath on behalf of the divisional administration. Senior officials including DIG Manjur Morshed Alam, Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, Police Superintendent Farzana Islam, Deputy Commissioner Khairul Alam Suman, and freedom fighters also paid their respects.
