Victory celebration starts at Shahed Minar

Sammilita Sangskritik Jote (SSJ) organised a cultural programme beginning its four-day ‘Bijoy Utsab’ at TSC of Dhaka University on Friday. A four-day festival marking the 49th Victory Day organised by Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, an umbrella platform of cultural organisations, begun today at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka.

The festival, titled ‘Bijoy Utsab’, was inaugurated by national professor Rafiqul Islam at TSC of Dhaka University on Thursday. President of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Ghulam Quddus, its general secretary Hasan Arif, popular people’s song singer Fakir Alamgir, thespian Jhuna Chowdhury and others were present at the programme.

‘Over 2,500 artistes from 125 cultural troupes will participate in this year’s Bijoy Utsab,’ said Ghulam Quddus. The four-day festival will include solo and group dance recitals, music shows, recitations, street plays and others. Besides, artistes of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra are scheduled to attend a session where they will recall their memories.

The festival will be held at different venues including Central Shaheed Minar, Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi, Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial premises in Rayer Bazar, Mirpur and Donia. Besides on December 16, SSJ will bring out a procession titled ‘Bijay Shobhajatra’ from the Central Shaheed Minar. Sammilita Sangskritik Jote was founded in 1985. Since then the organisation has been arranging the Victory Day festival every year.
