Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said victims of shanties razed in the last Friday’s fire at Mirpur’s Chalantika, will be rehabilitated, reports BSS. “The government will rehabilitate all victims of the slum gutted in Mirpur last Friday,” Quader said while distributing relief materials among the fire affected people at Bangabandhu Bidya Niketan at Mirpur.

The government will give all support along with relief materials until completion of rehabilitation of the fire affected people, he said, adding the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always remains beside the helpless people. Mentioning the remarks of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam about Mirpur slum fire, the Awami League General Secretary said that Mirza Fakhrul criticized Awami League and the government when he came to visit the fire affected people but did not distribute any relief goods among them.

“People do not want to hear long speech . . . they want support and cooperation but you (Fakhrul) give people only lip service,” Quader said. About BNP’s last one and a half year activities, he said the BNP could not stage demonstration even for one and a half minute during the last one and a half year. He said BNP leaders could not release Begum Khaleda Zia from jail. “They (BNP leaders) have failed in court, they have failed in movement and now they are lodging complaints with foreign missions,” Quader said.

Mentioning the BNP’s plan to go to the United Nations (UN) to lodge allegations, the AL general secretary said after failing to get people’s support, BNP is going to lodge allegations with the UN. “Such activities of BNP have proved its bankruptcy in politics,” Quader added.
