VGF rice distributed among fishermen in Bhola

Rice under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) distributed among the 1,765 fishermen in Shambhupur union under Tajumuddin upazila of Bhola district on Wednesday.

The government imposed a 22-day ban on Hilsha catching, selling and transporting across the country from October 4. For this reason, the government took the initiative to mitigate their hardships by distributing VGF rice to the fishermen and 1,765 fishermen were nselected for the rice.

Local lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shawon, handed over the VGF rice to the fishermen at function held at the Panchpalli Secondary School ground in Shambhupur union under Tajumuddin upazila this morning as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shawon, MP, said considering the trouble of the fishermen who catch Hilsha fish in the river, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the welfare pogramme for them.

Upazila Awami League General Secretary Fazlul Haque Dewan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Maryam Begum, Upazila Fisheries Officer Amir Hossain, Local Union Parishad Chairman Russell Miah, Shambhupur Union Awami League President Prof Saiduzzaman and General Secretary Kamal Uddin, among others, were present on the occasion.
