A vessel named ‘MT Yuan Jing He’ carrying 27,300 tons of diesel has berthed at Chattogram Port. It is the ninth diesel-laden ship to arrive at the port following the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The vessel was anchored at the port’s Dolphin Jetty on Friday afternoon. The matter was confirmed by Farzin Hasan Moumita, Assistant Manager of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
She said that BPC officials would be present at the port at 2 PM to inspect the vessel.
Meanwhile, two more large vessels carrying LPG and LNG have reached the outer anchorage of the port.
According to BPC sources, initiatives have been taken to ensure a stable fuel supply by importing sufficient fuel from alternative sources outside the Middle East, alongside existing pipeline reserves.
In a separate development, 37,000 liters of diesel stored illegally were seized during a drive at an oil tanker in the Sadarghat area of Chattogram.
The fuel was recovered on Thursday afternoon through a joint operation conducted by the Chattogram Port Authority, Bangladesh Navy, and Coast Guard.
According to port sources, acting on confidential information, the joint forces carried out a search on a tanker stationed in the Sadarghat area and found a large quantity of diesel stored without any valid documentation. The tanker along with the fuel was immediately seized.
Syed Refayat Hamim, Secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority, said the operation was conducted against illegally stored fuel, and legal action is currently underway in this regard.
