Vermi compost farming gains popularity in Brahmanbaria

Published : 22 Oct 2022 08:15 PM

Mazir Ahmed of Nabinagar Upazila in Brahmanbaria is dreaming of success by setting up vermi and tricho compost under NATP phase-2 project. He set up a vermi and tricho compost exhibition in the financial year 2021-22, according to Nabinagar Agriculture Office sources. With success, he started commercial production of tricho and vermicompost on a large scale. He built a huge firm. Currently earning several lakh of Taka a year.

Trichoderma biopesticide was first discovered by Dr. Bahadur Mia, Professor of Plant Pathology Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University, which was made suitable for use by farmers through research at Bogra RDA Laboratory in June 2013. It is available in tricho-suspension, powder and paste form. Its effectiveness is achieved only by regular spraying. Trico-compost can be produced rapidly by mixing an aqueous solution of 'trico-suspension' with rotting garbage. As it is readily available, there is no need to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

It is possible to produce poison-free crops with its use. It plays an effective role in seed treatment and control of soil borne plant diseases. Trichoderma also helps in plant growth and crop production. Its use saves production costs in agriculture. There is no harmful effect on land. Increases soil fertility. Reduces use of chemical fertilizers by 40%-60%. The process of making vermi and tricho compost is almost the same. However, only organic fertilizers are available from vermi compost, while tricho compost combines both fertilizers and pesticides. Due to which the popularity of this fertilizer is increasing day by day.

This fertilizer can be made at home. There is no cost. Composting requires three brick-cement rings of three feet diameter, which are arranged in a row on polythene to form the house. After that quantity of dung, wood powder, chicken droppings, kachuripana, ash, neem leaves, trichoderma powder, molasses, broken corn should be mixed well.

After that the mixture should be given in quantity of water in the house. Then the house has to be covered with a tin shed. The mixture should be shaken well every four to five days. Otherwise, the gas pressure may cause the ring to burst. Within 40-45 days the fertilizer is ready for use.

In this method, a small hole should be made on the side of the house made of rings, so that the lysate (liquid substance) coming out of the house can accumulate there. This liquid is used as pesticide.

In this regard, Agriculture Officer Jaglul Haider said that he was successful by installing vermi and trico compost. We are providing various support to him from agriculture office.

This is first in Nabinagar so I am giving farmers idea about vermi and tricho compost.

He has succeeded and others will succeed if they come forward. He also said, thanks to such initiatives.

With that I would like to express my gratitude to those involved in NATP, the most successful project of DAA so far.

In this way, hundreds of successful entrepreneurs are being created all over the country under the hands of NATP project. There is no option to continue such projects in future.
