A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed February 23 to deliver its verdict in a graft case against suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman and suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Khandaker Enamul Basir.

Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka’s Fourth Special Judge Court announced the date, said court sources.

On January 24, the ACC pleaded for the highest punishment for them. ACC counsel advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kazal made the plea in his case summing up arguments in the case at the same court.

The accused on January 3 had pleaded not guilty in their statements in self-defense in the case.

On June 24 in 2019, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against DIG Mizan for accumulating wealth worth Tk 3.28 crore while he concealed information of wealth worth Tk 3.7 crore in his wealth statement submitted to the ACC.

The anti-graft body also found his involvement in money laundering.

In January 2018, Mizan was withdrawn from the DMP Headquarters and attached to the Police Headquarters following allegations of marrying a woman forcibly and torturing her later.

DIG Mizan is also facing another graft case filed on charges of transaction of bribe with ACC director Khandakar Enamul Basir.
