A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed January 17 for announcing the verdict in a double murder case.

Earlier in 2017, Shamsun Nahar and her 17-year-old son Sajjadul Karim Shaon were killed at their residence in city’s Kakrail area.

According to the court sources, Judge Md Rabiul Alam of the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka fixed the date.

Earlier in the day, the judge concluded the arguments.

Three accused of the case were slain Samsun Nahar's husband Abdul Karim, Abdul Karim’s third wife Sharmin Akter Mukta and Mukta's brother Al-Amin Johny. They were produced before the court during the hearing.

During the hearing, the prosecution argued the court that they were able to prove the charges brought against the accused.

But the defence lawyer appealed to the court to acquit their clients from the charges claiming that the prosecution failed to prove charges in the case.

The court recorded statements of 17 out of 22 prosecution witnesses including the complainant of the case.

They were murdered due to family dispute over property, according to the case document. Ashraf Ali, brother of Shamsun Nahar, filed the murder case with Ramna Police Station.

Police arrested Abdul Karim and Mukta from the capital Dhaka on November 3 in 2017. RAB arrested Mukta's brother Johny from Moksedpur upazila of Gopalganj on November 4 of the same year in connection with the double murder.

Johny gave his confessional statement in the case to a Dhaka magistrate.

On July 16 in 2018, Md Ali Hossain, an inspector of Ramna Police Station, pressed charges against Abdul Karim, Mukta and Johny.

On January 31 in 2019, the court framed charges against the trio.
