The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has started two weeks of renovation work to improve the functionality of the Postogola Bridge.

As a result, vehicles using the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway have to use alternative routes from Thursday up to March 8.

The RHD notification signed by Additional Chief Engineer Md. Sabuj Uddin Khan said that from February 22 to March 8, two girders of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Buriganga Bridge-1 (Postogola Bridge) located at the third kilometer of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (N-8: Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway) highway repair and retrofitting work will be carried out.

The RHD has also given directions for alternative roads for heavy vehicles and buses. It has been said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman highway vehicles leaving Jatrabari will enter the highway through Teghoria Intersection using Dholaipar Bus Stand and Babubazar Bridge.

And vehicles going to Jatrabari from the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Highway will enter Jatrabari via Dholaipar using Teghoria Intersection-Babubazar Bridge.

According to the notification, the date for this repair work was earlier fixed from February 19 to March 6, but it was changed for SSC examination.

Plying of all types of heavy vehicles, including truck-pickup vans, covered vans, container lorries, is restricted during the newly scheduled period from February 22 to March 8.

Earlier on Sunday (February 18) at noon, representatives of seven related organizations including the traffic department held a meeting at the headquarters of DMP. In the meeting, there was a discussion to deal with the traffic congestion and to determine alternative roads to ensure traffic movement.
