The prices of almost all types of vegetables have gone up in the markets of the capital during the week. With that the price of fish has increased.
However, the price of broiler chicken has come down a bit.
On Friday, the scenario was surfaced at Rampura, Khilgaon, Santinagar, Karwan Bazar and others kitchen markets.
Talking to traders around the markets, it was learned that the prices of various vegetables have gone up from Tk 10 to Tk 30 per kilogram (kg) per week.
The price of fish has increased up to Tk 40 per kg. And the price of broiler chicken has decreased by Tk 10 per kg.
In these markets, carrot which was sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100 per kg, is now selling at Tk 130 per kg, tomato which was Tk 60 to Tk 100, is now selling at Tk 100 per kg. Besides squash, brinjal, string bean and snake gourd is selling between Tk 70 and Tk 80 per kg. Bitter gourd is selling at Tk 60 to Tk 70.
However, prices of okra, parwal, papaya, and some other vegetables remain unchanged.
Those three vegetables are selling between Tk 40 and Tk 50 per kg.
A vegetable trader at Rampura Bazar while talking to this correspondent said, “Earlier we brought a basket of tomato at around Tk 400 to Tk 500, but now we have to purchase the same basket at Tk 2500. Due to the supply disruption such price hike is being observed at the market.”
While asking how many kg of tomato does a basket has, he replied, 25 kg.
Ginger, which was raised two weeks ago, is being sold at a higher price. Imported ginger is being sold at Tk 160 to Tk 180 per kg. And local ginger is being sold at Tk 120 to Tk 130 per kg. With this, onions are being sold at high prices. Local onions are being sold at Tk 50 per kg like last week.
However, prices of different fishes remain same as past week. In these markets, per kg chital fish was selling at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500, Rohi is at Tk 300 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 300 to Tk 400, Tilapia is sold at Tk Tk 150 to Tk 180, Boal fish at Tk 400 to Tk 500, Pangas is sold at Tk 140 to Tk 170, Pabda is sold at Tk 400 to Tk 450, and Shing is sold at Tk 300 to Tk 450 (based on quality and size).
