Vegetable prices go down

The prices of vegetables have come down a little this week due to increased supply, bringing relief to the general public.

The prices of all kinds of vegetables had been on the rise in the market for the last few months. With the onset of winter, the supply of vegetables is increasing. Even a few days ago, no vegetables were sold below Tk 70-80. However, the price has started to come down.

The situation has been observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

A large size cauliflower is being sold at Tk 40-50, which was being sold at Tk 60-70 previously. Similarly, cabbage is being sold at Tk 35-40 per piece, yardlong beans at Tk 60-70 per kg, and beans at Tk 80 per kg.

Per kg brinjal is being sold at Tk 50, bitter gourd at Tk 60-80, tomato at Tk 140, pumpkin Tk 40, snake gourd at Tk 60, pointed gourd Tk 40, potato Tk 25, spiny gourd at Tk 80, carrot at Tk 120, cucumber at Tk 80 and gourd at Tk 70 per piece.

Local onions are being sold at Tk 55-60. The price of green chili has decreased significantly and is being sold at Tk 80 per kg.

Dried chillies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 80 to Tk 130, ginger at Tk 70-80 and turmeric at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg. Besides, Indian lentils are being sold at Tk 90 per kg and local lentils at Tk 110 per kg.

At the retail level, edible oil is being sold at Tk 155 per liter. Sugar is being sold at Tk 75-80 per. Besides, packets of sugar are being sold at Tk 85 per kg.

The price of eggs has remained unchanged. A dozen of red eggs are being sold at Tk 110. A dozen of duck’s eggs are being sold for Tk 180. Local chicken eggs are being sold for Tk 180.

Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 150-155 per kg. Sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 260 per kg and layer chicken at Tk 260 per kg with an increase of Tk 20.
