In the recent past prices of most of the common vegetables have dropped while prices of edible oil, rice, lentil, onion, fish, beef, mutton, and chicken remain unchanged.
Visits to some of the leading kitchen markets in the city reveal the price difference bringing sigh of relief for the middle income and low-income people of the society. Price of beans, string bean, cucumber, parwal, and green chilly have significantly declined while carrots, cauliflower, tomatoes, and turnip are said to be costly.
Bean is now selling at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kilogram (kg), string bean at Tk 60, green chili is Tk 100 to Tk 120, cucumber is Tk 40 to Tk 50, parwal is selling at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg.
On the other hand, okra is selling at Tk 50 to Tk 60, brinjal is selling at Tk 50 to Tk 100, green papaya costs Tk 30 to Tk 40, pumpkin is Tk 30 to Tk 40, sponge gourd at Tk 40, bitter gourd at Tk 60 per kg, cabbage Tk 40 to Tk 60 per piece.
Tomato is now selling at Tk 100 to Tk 120, carrot costs between Tk 90 and Tk 100 per kg, cauliflower costs between Tk 40 and Tk 50 per piece and gourd is sold at Tk 60 per piece. Lentils are being sold at Tk 90 to Tk 120 per kg and sugar at Tk 62 to Tk 65 per kg. On the other hand, Atash rice (boiled) is selling at Tk 52 to 53, paijam rice at Tk 50 to Tk 52, miniket based on quality is sold at Tk 57 and Tk 60, nazirshail rice is selling at Tk 55 and Tk 56.
Meanwhile, edible oil prices have slightly increased. At present, loose edible oil is selling at Tk 105 to Tk 108, which was Tk 102 to Tk 105 past week. Apart from this, local onions are selling at Tk 80 to Tk 85, imported Egyptian onions are selling at Tk 70, Chinese onions at Tk 60. Locally produced garlic is selling at Tk 110 to Tk 120 per kg, Chinese garlic at Tk 100.
Price of broiler chicken soared slightly higher than that of the price last week. Broiler chicken is selling at Tk 140 to Tk 145 per kg, locally grown chicken per kg is Tk 550, sonali chicken is Tk 250 to Tk 270 per kg. On the other hand, beef is selling at Tk 600 and mutton at Tk 800 per kg.
