Vegetable, chicken prices down

All types of vegetables except papaya and tomato were costing more than Tk 50 per kilogram (kg) which was still higher but compared to previous week price was a little bit lower.

On Friday, visiting different kitchen markets in the capital this correspondent found that depending on the quality and market, brinjal was being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 60, which was sold at Tk 60 to Tk 120 last week.

Like brinjal, cucumbers price have also come down during the week. Cucumber, which was sold at Tk 80 per kg last Friday, was available at Tk 50 per kg.

The price reduction list includes Shajne (Drum Sticks), Parwal, string beans, beans, potatoes. The price of Sajan, which was sold at Tk 80 per kg last Friday has come down to Tk 70 to Tk 60. Parwal was being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg, which was sold at Tk 60 to Tk 70 last Friday.

Similarly, string beans were selling at Tk 60  per kg, okra at Tk 60, beans at Tk 50 while gourd, bitter gourd, snake gourd, turnips prices remained same as last week.

On the other hand, tomatoes were selling at Tk 30 to Tk 35 per kg while papaya at Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg.

New arrival spiny gourd was selling at Tk 80 to Tk 100 per kg, green chili at Tk 40, garlic at Tk 80 to Tk 130, ginger at Tk 80 to Tk 100 and Turmeric was sold at Tk 180 to Tk 240 per kg.

Sugar was being sold at Tk 80 per kg in the market. BR-28 rice was being sold at Tk 45 to Tk 48 per kg, Miniket at Tk 65, Nazir at Tk 65 to Tk 70, Swarna rice at Tk 48 to 50 per kg. A liter of open edible oil was being sold for Tk 135 to Tk 139.

The price of broiler and Pakistani chicken has come down a bit. Broiler chicken, which was sold at Tk 150 to 155 per kg last Friday, was being sold at Tk 140 to 145 per kg yesterday. Sonali chicken was being sold at Tk 230 to Tk 280 per kg, which was Tk 250 to Tk 300 last Friday. And red layer chicken was being sold at Tk 200 to Tk 220 per kg as before.
