Veg seeds, saplings distributed among Jhenaidah farmers

When the people have been selling mature and immature fruit-bearing trees and those are used rampant in brick kilns and other ovens every day, the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jhenidah has taken a timely initiatives and started distribution of saplings of fruit bearing trees to recover the loss. 

They have distributed vegetables seeds and saplings of fruit bearing trees among the farmers in the district. This sort of distribution programme was held at the conference room of the deputy director of th DAE in Jhenidah on Wednesday. 

Organized by upazila agriculture  office in Jhenidah Sadar, the programme was aimed at establishing vegetables nutrition agriculture with the incentives of family agriculture practice for the session 20201-21. 

DAE sources said a total of 544 listed small and marginal farmers of 17 unions of Jhenidah Sadar were brought under the incentives programme. 

They have been receiving seeds, saplings, fertilizer, fencing, platform and caring charges for aaan maount of Taka 1.935 each. The assistance will be sent through mobile banking system so that each of the farmers could receive the same staying at their homes.

The farmers will produce the vegetables and fruits on e one decimal of land round the year as “Kalikapur Model” introduced by Jhenidah DAE. 

The vegetables and fruits will meet up the demand of the farmers. DAE in Jhenidah Sadar upazila had received an amount of Taka 14.34 lkah for the activities under incentives. 

Presided over by deputy director of DAE in Jhenidah Kripangshu Sekhar Biswas, DAE additional director in Khulna region at Jashore Partha Pratim Saha inaugurated the programme as chief guest. 

Jhenidah Sadar upazila agriculture officer (UAO) Mofaqkharul Islam, agriculture extension officers Rokanuzzaman and Junayeed Habib among others remain present.

In his speech as the chief guest DAE additional director Partha Pratim said there is no alternative producing vegetables and local fruits as they were mandatory for our health and nutrition. 

The country has been importing fruits from different countries expending huge foreign currency, while the local fruits might help more than the imported ones and save our hard-earn money spent forth same ever year. 

The farmers staying in remote villages will produce vegetables and fruit bearing trees which will turn to smaller farm at the homesteads. The activities will be monitored by the senior DAE officials at regular basis, additional director said.
