Vendors and shop owners in Gazipur have increased the prices of vegetables and good items during the lockdown. Astonished and flabbergasted buyers in Gazipur have no options but to buy food items in higher prices. Same scenarios were observed at Kaliakair, Shafipur, Fulbaria area of the district on Wednesday after investigation.
It has been found out that sellers without following lockdown regulations and proper hygiene are selling food items during lockdown period in the town. Sellers are also swarming in the market without masks. Most of the vegetables and food items are being sold at higher prices.
vegetable seller Abul Hossain from Mirjapur Bazar said that price of the food items increased due to the higher cost rate of transporting good during lockdown. Retailers like him have to buy goods at higher prices from wholesalers. Thus the price increased rapidly.
Prices of onion and green pepper have increased at a significant level. Sellers in the area said that fish and meat prices are stable until now. Vendor Alam mia from Dagri Bazar said that transport owners are charging more during lockdown and this has already effecting the market. kaliakair UNO Kazi Hafuzul Amin said that if reports of selling goods in higher price comes to them, upazila officials will take quick actions.
