Prices of chicken, eggs, and vegetables decreased while that of edible oil, rice, and other products remained unchanged on Friday.
While visiting different kitchen markets in the capital, including Karwan Bazar this correspondent found such price variation of essential commodities.
Sonali (Cock) chicken was selling at Tk 290 - Tk 300 per kg while broiler chicken was at Tk 150 per kg and layer chicken was being sold at Tk 190 - Tk 200 per kg.
Karwan Bazar chicken trader Sahadat said, "Poultry owners do not want to rear chickens due to high temperature. As a result, they are supplying chickens at reduced price".
Broiler chicken eggs were selling at Tk 85 per dozen at Tk 5 less while Duck eggs were at Tk 140 and indigenous chicken eggs were being sold at Tk 200 per dozen.
The prices of beef, mutton and other products including spices remained unchanged in these markets. Mutton was being sold at Tk 700 to Tk 750 per kg and beef at Tk 580 per kg.
In the vegetable markets, it was found that, carrots were selling at Tk 20 - Tk 30 per kg, beans at Tk 40 -Tk 50 per kg, brinjals at Tk 40 -Tk 50 per kg, bitter gourd at Tk 40 -Tk 60 per kg, radishes at Tk 30 - Tk 40 per kg, tomatoes at Tk 20-30 per kg and string bean was selling at Tk 60 per kg.
Depending on the size, gourd was currently being sold at Tk 50 - Tk 60 and cabbage at Tk 20 - Tk 25. Sweet pumpkin was being sold at Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg, snake gourd at Tk 40 to 60, parwal at Tk 40, shajna at Tk 60 - Tk 70 and potatoes were selling at Tk 20 per kg.
Meanwhile, six kg potatoes were being sold at Tk 100. Onions was selling at Tk 35 per kg.
Papaya was selling at Tk 30 per kg, cucumber at Tk 40 - Tk 50 and peas were being sold at Tk 40 - Tk 50.
Besides, dried chillies were being sold at Tk 200 per kg, garlic at Tk 60 - Tk 120, ginger at Tk 70 and turmeric at Tk 160 - Tk 200.
Sugar was being sold in the market at Tk 70.
BR-28 rice was being sold at Tk 45 - Tk 48 per kg, Miniket at Tk 65, Nazirshail at Tk 65 - 70 and Sorna rice was selling at Tk 48 - Tk 50. Loose edible oil was being sold at Tk 135 per liter.
Consumers at the kitchen markets alleged that as the holy month of Ramadan was approaching near, prices of oil, sugar, rice, and some other essentials were not stable. They demanded strict market supervision to control the prices of daily commodities during the month of Ramadan.
