“The main job of a university is to do research for creating new knowledge. There is no substitute for research and innovation to move the country forward for sustainable development. At present there is no shortage of allocations from the government for research. That is why I want to take CUET (Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology) forward in the next four years through short and long term plans.”
CUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said these while addressing a discussion on the occasion of 18th University Day in CUET TSC Bhaban auditorium on Tuesday.
University Day Celebration Committee President and Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. Md. Rabiul Alam presided over the function and special guests were Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Dean Faculty of Architecture and Planning Prof. Dr. Md. Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Registrar (Additional in charge) of the University Prof. Dr. Faruq-uz-Zaman Chowdhury and Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mashiul Haque.

Jamal Uddin spoke on behalf of the department heads.
Earlier, CUET VC inaugurated the University Day program by hoisting the national flag and the flag of the university in front of the administrative building of the university. Then the rally was held. The rally started from the front of the administrative building and ended at TSC. Later trees were planted in the area adjacent to TSC.
Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) emerged as the only higher education institution for engineering and technology education and research in the south-east of Bangladesh on 1st September 2003. This institute started its journey as Chittagong Engineering College on 28th December, 1968 and later on 1st July, 1986 as BIT, Chittagong.
