Real Sociedad dug deep to earn a remarkable 1-1 draw against Valencia scoring an equalising penalty in the 100th minute.
Kevin Gameiro put Marcelino's men in front just before the hour, and should have secured an opening day LaLiga Santander win for Valencia, but put a 95th minute penalty over the crossbar. Then in a dramatic turn of events Francis Coquelin was fouled in the penalty area and Mikel Oyarzabal kept his cool to slot home for La Real.
Perhaps the most dramatic outing of the day came at the Mestalla, where Mikel Oyarzabal secured a very late point for Real Sociedad:
Gameiro opened his account in the second half but also had an injury-time penalty miss that proved costly. Coquelin handled the ball minutes later in his own area and was sent off via a second booking, and Oyarzabal calmly converted the penalty.
