Vaccination prog to continue in Ramadan

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that the ongoing vaccination program for Covid-19 would continue as usual in the month of Ramadan. 

He was speaking at the award-giving ceremony of the Health Ministry at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.

The minister said that in order to ensure the protection of people from virus, vaccination program would be conducted in the normal manner during the month of Ramadan. The 1st, 2nd and booster dose activities will be conducted regularly.

Special campaign for the second dose of vaccine started on March 28 and was scheduled to end on March 31. But the tenure has been extended for another three days, he added.

“We will run a special vaccination campaign for three more days with the aim of fulfilling 80 percent of our vaccination target. The health sector would be digitalised. We will bring every hospital under CCTV and it will be controlled centrally,” he said.

“In the last three years, about 800 new ambulances and 450 jeeps have been provided to the hospitals of the country. Telemedicine activities have been started in about 100 hospitals with the recruitment of about 10,000 doctors and 15,000 nurses during the corona crisis of the country,” said the health minister. 

About 800 labs have been established. From 4-5 Central Oxygen Hospitals, Central Oxygen has now been provided in more than 130 hospitals, he added.

Mentionable that 47 prizes in 10 categories were given at the ceremony. Among them are the best 10 upazila hospitals, the best 5 district hospitals, the best 3 medical colleges, the best 2 specialised post graduate institutes and hospitals and the best 8 upazila health complexes.

Director General of the Department of Health Prof Dr Abul Bashar Khurshid Alam presided over the function.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Health Lokman Hossain Miah, BSMMU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, President of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad Prof Dr Iqbal Arslan, Secretary General Prof Dr MA Aziz and others were present at the event.
