Vaccination of Rohingyas start from Aug 10

Among the Rohingyas who have taken shelter in 34 camps of Ukhia Tenaf in Cox's Bazar, Covid-19 vaccination will start from August 10 to vaccinated them. In the first phase, 48,000 Rohingyas above 55 years of age will be vaccinated against Covid-19. Vaccination will also be started for imams of mosques and volunteers engaged in vaccination work.

Additional Commissioner of the Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation (RRRC) Office Samchu-Ddauja Nayan confirmed the matter on Saturday.

He said the government has decided in principle to vaccinate the Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh. 

If all goes well, the vaccination program in the camps will start from August 10.

Samchu-Ddauja Nayan said that in the first phase, about 46,000 Rohingyas over the age of 55 will be vaccinated. In addition, the sailors, imams of mosques and volunteers will also be vaccinated, keeping in mind the safety of those involved in the program. This number is about 16 thousand.

Additional Commissioner Samchu-Ddouja Nayan said all sorts of ancillary work has been completed, including the necessary training of staff for vaccination in the Rohingya camp. In the meantime, 16 teams of four or five people each have been trained for vaccination in the camps.

He said preparations were being made to start vaccinating corona in the camps at the end of March. But due to lack of adequate stock of vaccines, vaccination could not be started.

According to the RRRC office, out of about 8.5 lakh Rohingyas registered, 4.5 lakh are Rohingyas who are over 55 years of age. They will be vaccinated in the first step.

Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Office of the Health Coordinator. Abu Toha said,So far, 2,518 Rohingyas in 34 camps in Cox's Bazar have been infected. 27 people died.

On August 25, 2016, thousands of Rohingyas crossed the border from Myanmar to seek refuge in Bangladesh. These Rohingyas are sheltered by the government in 34 camps in Ukhia Teknaf, Bangladesh, where there are currently 1.1 million Rohingyas.
