Covid-19 vaccination programme for Qawmi Madrasa students began on Sunday morning with the vaccination of Jamia Siddiquia Noorani Women's Madrasa students in Mirpur area of the capital.
The programme was inaugurated by Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora and Director of vaccination campaign Dr Shamsul Haque.
DGHS informed that they would be vaccinated with Pfizer.
Two months ago, the government started giving coronavirus vaccines to students between the ages of 12 and 17.
According to government statistics, currently there are 19,199 Qawmi madrasahs in Bangladesh. The number of students in those madrasahs is over 14 lakh.
Dr Shamsul Haque told the media on Saturday that the floating people of Kamalapur railway station would be vaccinated on Saturday evening. They will receive the vaccine of Johnson & Johnson company.
He further said, “There is no exact number of floating people in the country. They do not have birth certificate, national identity card or permanent address. Therefore, it would be tough to ensure second dose of the vaccine for them. They will be given the J&J vaccine as one dose of this vaccine is enough to combat coronavirus.”
