Rabindranath has taught the Bengalis how to raise their head high in the world. The Bengali people find solace and stimulation in his words and melody. For the last nine years, the music organization 'Uttarayan' has been trying to portray those words and melodies as a tool of protest.
The ninth anniversary of the founding of the organisation which practices Rabindranath is going to be celebrated next Saturday, November 2. On this day, a special programme titled ‘Rabindranath in Europe’ will be organized at the National Museum of Shahbag.
Minister of State for Culture KM Khalid will be present as the chief guest at a different section held at the museum's main auditorium this evening. Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Md. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal will be the special guest. Uttarayan's director and eminent Rabindrasangeet musician Lily Islam confirmed the matter.
Regarding the event, Lily Islam said, “Every year we try to bring Rabindranath and his songs in front of the audience. In this series, I arranged this time with songs composed during his travels to Europe. Kabiguru loved to traveler. Not only did he travel, but when he went to the country he became aware of the country in many ways. In his writings, his relations with the society, politics, nature and people of the country have come up again and again in various ways. We have tried to highlight his travels to Europe through 20 songs and stories. Hope everyone will like it.”
Lily Islam is planning and managing the programme. Himadri Shekhar directed the music. Bhashhar Bandopadhyay and Dalia Ahmed are coordinating in lessons and recitals. Uttarayan members will be presenting the music. The whole event will be open to everyone.
