The United States wants to increase trade and commerce with Bangladesh. In this regard, the country has shown keen interest in increasing exports, investment and working with the ICT sector.

State Minister for Post, Telecommunications and ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this to journalists following a meeting with the US Ambassador Peter Haas at the secretariat in the capital on Tuesday.

The state minister said that the US will be a partner in the implementation of the government's Vision 2041, specifically in the ICT sector. Bangladesh exports more software to the United States. It has been discussed to increase it further.

Palak also said that increasing cooperation with the top ICT institutions of the US has also been discussed. The United States also agreed to increase cooperation in cyber security. Besides, the main three objectives of the discussions were that America is the largest outsourcing destination for Bangladesh’s software and freelancers. Of the 60 countries to which Bangladesh export software, the US has the largest share. Bangladesh’s outsourcing clients in America are more than in other countries. We talked about how we can increase it.

When replying to a question that the USA may take action against Bangladesh after the election, Palak replied, "When a diplomat comes to meet a newly formed cabinet member and offer new opportunities to expand bilateral trade and investment, we can understand that the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh is quite good and the doors of new possibilities are opening up with the new government in the next five years."

Palak also said, "I feel that other countries of the world are very interested in Bangladesh, and American Ambassador Peter Haas, from his various words and topics of discussion, I feel that our commercial relationship and the potential relationship will be expanded further."

Palak said, “There has been talks about setting up resource innovation centres in 10 universities of our country. We discussed how US universities and the government can help. Another issue is how America can have G-to-G cooperation with the Bangladesh Post Department to attract investment and the investment of American companies, especially Amazon, Starling, SpaceX, Google and Facebook, can be more in some areas, he said

He further said “in all, Bangladesh talked about what kind of cooperation it can get from the United States in building Smart Bangladesh and how we can build Smart Bangladesh together, increase exports and investment and create employment.”
