US envoy visits BWDB office

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller paid a courtesy call on AM Aminul Haque, Director General of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) while visiting BWDB’s Motijheel head office on Tuesday, stated a press release.

At that time, he observed the steps taken to reach the flood warnings, issued by BWDB’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, to public. Earlier, BWDB Director General welcomed the Ambassador and informed him of the flood situation in the country as well as in Dhaka metropolis.  He was also briefed on the joint efforts of the U.S. space agency NASA and the University of Washington to improve BWDB’s flood forecasting system.

The Ambassador expressed satisfaction over the ongoing efforts to extend the medium-term (10-day potential) forecast to the community level in collaboration with CARF Bangladesh under the financial support of USAID. He hoped that the United States would continue to support such activities in the future as well.

During the visit, BWDB’s Additional Director General (West Region) Md. Habibur Rahman, Additional Director General (East Region) Mohammad Ali, Additional Director General (Planning) Md. Motahar Hossain and other senior officials were present.
