US delegation visit Rohingya camp

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Alice Wells and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Robert Miller visited the Shamlapur Rohingya Refugee Camp in Teknaf in Cox's Bazar on Thursday. Wells met the UN Refugee Commissioner Md Mahbub Alam Talukder at his office. Earlier in the morning, when they arrived at the airport, senior staff of Cox's Bazar administration welcomed them. Wells met officials of the district administration, various UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) in Cox's Bazar. Wells led a team of deputy director of US Aid.

Assistant Secretary of State Alice Wells and Ambassador Earl Robert Miller and senior US aid officials said they discussed on various issues, including humanitarian aid to Rohingya refugees, local people affected by the settlement, refugees' migration to Vasanchar. During the hour-long meeting, Wells also witnessed the current situation and overall situation in the Rohingya camps.
