US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen visited the historic Saidpur Railway Workshop, Railway Museum and the President Saloon on Tuesday afternoon (September 1).
The ambassador was welcomed at the railway workshop by Divisional Superintendent Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Works Manager, Saidpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farah Fatiha Taklima and other officials of the railway and local administration.
During the visit, Ambassador Christensen toured various sections of the railway workshop and learned about its production activities and other aspects. He also visited the Railway Museum and the historic President Saloon, which is associated with the visit of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.
As a memento of his visit, Ambassador Christensen planted a tree in the garden of the Saidpur Railway Workshop.
He was accompanied by Diane Dowke, American Embassy official Md. Syed Fawzus Saleheen, Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed and other members of his entourage.
Later, the ambassador and his entourage visited the historic Chini Mosque and the Christian Catholic Church in Saidpur.
According to local residents, no foreign ambassador had previously visited the Saidpur Railway Workshop. They said the US ambassador’s visit has brought renewed attention to the historic production facility of Bangladesh Railway and its rich railway heritage. #EK
