US Ambassador highly impressed

Padma Bridge construction

US Ambassador in Dhaka Earl R Miller has been highly impressed with the quality of construction of the 6.15-kilometre Padma Bridge now progressing fast. He was overwhelmed with satisfaction when visiting the Padma Bridge construction site to see for himself the progress of the country’s largest infrastructure project.

Earlier on Thursday, the US Ambassador visited Tungipara of Gopalganj to pay rich tribute at the graveyard of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Talking to reporters Shaikh WalidFaiej, public relations officer of Bridges Division said US Ambassador Earl R Miller visited the Maowa construction yard Louhajong upazila under Munshiganj district, construction site of Padma Bridge at about 1. 48 pm on Friday while returning from Gopalganj.
“Later, boarding a sea boat he visited the construction site from Kathalbarighat. During his visit Miller was accompanied by his wife Michelle Adelman,” the official added.

An engineer preferring not to be named said during the visit US Ambassador has been highly impressed and satisfied after visiting the Padma Bridge construction site. Padma Bridge Project Director Shafiqul Islam, executive engineer Dewan Abdul Quader and concerned officials were present during the visit.

According to project information, until now the Padma bridge construction has achieved 81 percent so far. Of the total 294 piles, work of 293 piles is completed while rest one is almost completed. Of the total 42 piers, work of 30 piers has already been completed. Till now 14 spans have been installed for which the bridge is 2100 meter visible.
