Urban resilience workshop held for RMG, NGO officials

A Disaster Imagination Workshop with a panel of national and international opinion leaders in the field of urban resilience for Safer & Resilient was held in Dhaka on Thursday.

The workshop was organized by the World Bank-funded Urban Resilience Project: URP/RAJUK/S-06, operationalization of Urban Resilience Unit (URU), RTI International, USA.

Project Director Abdul LatifHelaly, Urban Resilience Project: RAJUK Part delivered address of welcome in the workshop. He said  “Effective disaster preparedness is especially important. To achieve this, capacity-building at all levels is needed: from communities, where simple steps can be taken to build awareness and help vulnerable people protect themselves, their families, their homes, and their assets; through the tiers of local and the regional government, all of which have important roles in preparing for disasters; to the national level. 

This workshop examines attempts to support capacity-building for preparedness, with a particular focus on collaboration between government actors and civil society.” 

SwarnaKazi, Task Team Leader from The World Bank, Dr. Kimiro Meguro, Team Leader RTI S6, Dr. Kit Miyamoto and Sabine Kast from Miyamoto International, Managing Directors & high officials from different NGO & Garment Industries were present among the panelists.

The ‘Meguro Maki Roll” tool has been used to promote the development of effective disaster risk reduction and preparedness countermeasures amongst Government Officials, Architecture, Engineering and Construction professionals, garment industry, NGOs, and community members

NGO staff and government officials often come from different backgrounds and have different working styles and cultures.
