The prices of meat, vegetables and other essential commodities have gone up in the market during the week ahead of Ramadan.
The situation has been observed during visits to a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.
Beef is being sold at Tk 800 per kg without bones and at Tk 700-750 with bones. Mutton is being sold at Tk 950-1000 per kg in the markets.
The price of chicken has also increased again over the week.
Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 180 per kg and layer chicken at Tk 265 per kg. Pakistani cock or sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 360 per kg with an increase of Tk 30-40 per kg. Large size local chickens are being sold at Tk 500 per piece, medium size at Tk 450 and small size at Tk 400 per piece.
Even last week, beef was sold at Tk 600-650 per kg, mutton at Tk 900 per kg and broiler at Tk 170 per kg. Despite adequate supply in the market, the price of eggplant has gone up just before the month of Ramadan. Per kg eggplant is being sold at Tk 70-100 which was sold at Tk 40-60 per kg last week.
Pointed gourd is being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg, yardlong beans at Tk 50-60 per kg.
Sajna stalks are being sold at Tk 200 per kg in different kitchen markets.
Per kg lady's finger is being sold at Tk 40-50 and bitter gourd is being sold at Tk 80 in these markets.
Per kg tomato is being sold at Tk 40-50, beans at Tk 40-60, carrot at Tk 40, pumpkin at Tk 40, radish at Tk 30-40 and snake gourd at Tk 50.
A large size cauliflower and cabbage is being sold at Tk 50-60 per piece, and gourd at Tk 50.
New and old potatoes are being sold at Tk 10-20 per kg in markets. Green chillies are being sold at Tk 100-120 per kg.
Green bananas are being sold at Tk 40 per four pieces, per kg papaya is Tk 50-55 and cucumber Tk 80, and per four pieces of lemon are being sold at Tk 40.
Onion prices have come down a little in the markets over the past week. Per kg local onion is being sold at Tk 30-35 and Indian onion is being sold at Tk 40-50 per kg.
Per kg lentils is being sold at Tk 120 per kg with an increase of Tk 5.
A dozen red eggs are being sold at Tk 105-110. Dozen duck eggs are being sold at Tk 160-165. Dozens of local chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 210. Dozens of Sonali chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 180.
Dried chilies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 100-110, ginger at Tk 60-80 and turmeric at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg.
Per liter edible oil is being sold at Tk 165. Sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Besides, packets of sugar are being sold at Tk 85 per kg.
