Uphold religious harmony : Sheikh Abdullah

State Minister for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah on Sunday vowed to maintain the religious harmony in the country at any cost as per the directives of Prime Minister. The State Minister, also the Chairman of the Buddhist Religion Welfare Trust, made the remarks while addressing the 86th Board meeting of the Buddhist Religion Welfare Trust at the conference room of his ministry.

"Religious harmony is an expected issue across the globe and similarly our Prime Minister also pledged to maintain this in our country at any cost,” said the Minister. “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had laid the foundation of building a non-communal Bangladesh by introducing the policy of neutrality of religion in the constitution, and today a country of religious harmony is being established under the leadership of his worthy daughter," the State Minister said.

Trustee of the 'Buddhist Religion Welfare Trust', Bashanti Chakma MP, Vice Chairman also State Minister for civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Md. Mahbub Ali, Vice Chairman, Shupto Bhushon Barua and other Trustees attended the meeting. While addressing, Md. Mahbub Ali said that the states where the minority community people are living safely and peacefully, is called a civilised state.

"We want to develop Bangladesh into a civilised nation by ensuring welfare and safety of minority communities,” he said. The meeting decided to distribute donation equally among 2085 Buddhist temples across the country to refurbish them, repairing Buddhist Creamation ground and among destitute Buddhists from the donations of Prime Minister on the occasion of coming 'Buddha Purnima'.

The meeting urged the Trustees to distribute the donation amount among the recipients ahead of the 'Buddha Purnima'. Additional Secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Qazi Hasan Ahmed, Joint Secretary, M A Hamid Jomaddar and Secretary of Trust, Joydatta Barua were also present in the meeting.
